Sorolla Through Light: From Tradition to Modernity

  • Venue: La Térmica Cultural, Ponferrada

  • Dates: 30 May–13 October 2025

Sorolla through Light: From Tradition to Modernity was a highlight of the 2025 exhibition season in Castile-León. This ambitious multidisciplinary project, curated by Alicia Vallina and Concepción Fernández, combined forty original artworks by Joaquín Sorolla with traditional costumes and jewellery.

Light Art Exhibitions participated in this initiative by producing a multi-sensory experience that revealed Joaquín Sorolla’s most emotional facet. Once again, the brushstrokes of the “painter of light” came to life in a unique new setting, illustrating the flexible and adaptable nature of this project as it engaged with new selections from the Valencian painter’s oeuvre. The sensory experience unfolded in a room where 120-square-metre ultra-high-definition LED screens covered every wall. Hundreds of moving images plunged visitors into Sorolla’s works, and the visuals were enhanced by an enveloping soundtrack composed especially for this purpose.

The virtual reality gallery was like a time-warp tunnel that let visitors travel back to Joaquín Sorolla’s era. They could explore iconic locations like his studio, or step into his picture Strolling along the Seashore and saunter down Malvarrosa Beach with Clotilde and María.
