Patronage and Collecting in the House of Alba

This exhibition features over 250 paintings, sculptures, decorative arts and documents from Liria Palace (Madrid), Monterrey Palace (Salamanca) and Las Dueñas Palace (Seville). Some of these works are usually kept in private rooms and are now being publicly displayed for the very first time.

The exhibition itinerary is divided into six sections:

Soldiers, Courtiers and Patrons
The 17th Century and Baroque Tastes
The 18th Century: The Houses of Alba and Berwick
The 14th Duke: Traveller, Patron and Collector
Empress Eugénie and the Artistic Legacy of the Second French Empire
Duke Jacobo and Duchess Cayetana: A Tradition of Patronage and Collecting

Curated by Álvaro Romero Sánchez-Arjona, cultural director of Fundación Casa de Alba, the show presents thoughtfully selected highlights of the impressive art-historical heritage owned by one of Europe’s greatest noble houses.

The exhibition venue is Centro Cultural Fundación Unicaja in Málaga, located inside the Bishop’s Palace, an impressive eighteenth-century building next to the cathedral.
